Note: Per-user environment variables for initial applications are only valid in Windows Server 2003 and older operating systems.

See Also: Environment Variables in ThinManager and Custom Variables for use with later versions of Windows.

If the %USERNAME% Environment Variable doesn't work, make sure you are logged in as a user that you're having issues with, open a Command Prompt, and type:

set | find "USERNAME"

Note: "USERNAME" is case-sensitive

If the command returns a variable that is not expected, delete the environment variable and try again.

To delete the USERNAME variable:

  • Click Start
  • Right click Computer > Properties
  • Advanced System Settings
  • Environment Variables
  • Delete the USERNAME variable
  • Re-run set | find "USERNAME"
