Purpose

Over the years we have accumulated a large number of tech notes relating to ThinManager deployment, management, and troubleshooting. This Wiki is a consolidation of all those tech notes and internal knowledge that serves as a knowledge base to allow ThinManager users to search for any information they need regarding any portion of the ThinManager Platform.

History

Automation Control Products (ACP) started as an integration company in 1999. Project after project, we realized the benefit that thin client technology offered by reducing points of failure across the plant floor. What was needed was a simple way to manage and configure the thin clients. Born from this obvious need was the ThinManager®. Today, ACP is a worldwide leader in the automation industry that provides full-feature centralized thin client and terminal server management software. Our unique platform offers trendsetting centralized management solutions for the modern factory by simplifying management of applications and visual resources. When combined with ACP’s ThinManager, each client has performance and features unmatched by products from any other company such as: • Thin Client hardware that never becomes obsolete
 • Automatic configuration of new clients
 • Redundancy and Failover
 • Server Load Balancing
 • Enhanced Security
 • Proven installations with all HMI and SCADA software ACP's unlimited licensing options allow larger corporations to standardize with a single management tool throughout their organization. Two of every ten Fortune 100 companies, along with over 1000 other companies in 30 countries, rely on ThinManager and ThinManager-Ready® thin clients for their daily operation.

Introduction

ThinManager is a thin client management platform that allows unprecedented control and security in a sustainable and scalable network, regardless of the size of your industrial environment or number of facilities. ThinManager's thin client architecture allows for deployment of less expensive hardware while giving users the applications and tools familiar to them in a format that reduces management and hardware costs while increasing security. By acting as a centralized management solution, ThinManager will seamlessly integrate with your current SCADA and HMI environments while providing a number of features, tools, and methods of access, which make it simple to monitor and adjust user sessions from anywhere. ThinManager display clients can be generated by a session running on a display server (e.g. a Terminal Server, a shadowed thin client, an image from an IP camera, or VMWare® virtual machines). Administrators can allow multiple user sessions to operate at the same time and each can be viewed and/or controlled directly from ThinManager or from any authorized thin client terminal on the network. ThinManager renders display clients through a number of different types of thin client hardware available from multiple manufacturers and offers the ability to expand the number of sessions, which can be simultaneously viewed from any designated work station.

Intro (2):

ThinManager offers technology for IT professionals and industrial engineers seeking better security and configuration of their thin client networks. Our MultiSession core technology allows multiple sessions running anywhere on the ThinManager network to be viewed through one thin client. Display clients can be generated by a traditional session running on a Terminal Server, a shadowed thin client, an image from an IP camera, or VMWare® virtual machines. The sources of these displays are referred to as Display Servers. ThinManager's MultiSession core technology allows you to view multiple display clients with a single thin client. Using session tiling you can now view up to 25 Display Clients on a single monitor. TermSecure extends this functionality even further by allowing you to link display clients to a user instead of to a particular thin client. Users can then access their own display clients simply by logging in to any ThinManager Ready thin client. ThinManager renders display clients through a number of different types of thin client hardware available from multiple manufacturers. (169 words)

Intro (3):

ThinManager is a worldwide leader in the automation industry that provides full-feature centralized thin client and terminal server management software. Our unique platform offers trendsetting, centralized management solutions for a modern industrial environment.

Most management platforms only manage the server but forget about the clients. ThinManager manages both the thin clients as well as their connections to the server to create an environment that allows centralized management from anywhere in your facility.

ThinManager ready thin clients offer a lower "Total Cost of Ownership" than PCs. By reducing maintenance and install time, thin clients keep downtime to an absolute minimum. ThinManager software allows you to configure and manage all connected thin clients from one central, secure server. (116 words)
